Once I even made a mistake with the bag of rice. (I simply forgot I was cooking, it turned out to be something more exciting in the living room.) And yes, for those of you who know me well, it is a fact that, apart from not being a pronounced kitchen fairy, my kitchen behaviour is characterised by my unwillingness to spend more than 20-25 minutes a day in there. Despite all this, I have now written a recipe book. Why?
Because as a woman recovering from endometriosis and as a psychologist who has been helping chronic women patients for many years, I am confronted daily with the difficulty of navigating the world of fad diets and the pressures women with endometriosis face. More than once I have seen lives, relationships and marriages destroyed on the altar of promising endometriosis diets that do not fit into the lives of modern women.
We are all rushing around, raising children, working, exercising, running a household, shopping, running errands, being great couples, friends, mothers and mothers-in-law, and if we have time, we are also self-actualising, or at least taking a stand for a cause that is dear to our hearts. Living with a chronic illness adds to the daily chores of frequent trips to the doctor and sitting in waiting rooms.
You've probably faced the same problem: it's important to you that what you eat and serve to your loved ones is healthy and delicious, but the daily kitchen chores require incredible sacrifice. It's easy to find that it takes time away from the things that really matter: your partner, your child, yourself and your own development, exercise and moments of quiet, rest and relaxation.
Wouldn't it be better if, after a night out when you're tired from work and shopping, you could go to a yoga class or talk through your day with your partner, help your child with homework or read a good book, instead of spending the whole evening preparing a three-course seaweed and kelp meal?
In this book, you finally don't have to face the ezo-bullshit of eat yin and watch out for yang.
You don't have to be yourself feel like a stone-age caveman.
You don't have to follow brutally drastic life-ruining fad diets.
What you get here is a research-based, understandable system that fits into the life of a health-conscious Western woman, and the recipes for delicious, healthy, simple meals to go with it.
Remember, the book does not contain a personalised diet, only general recommendations. Please take into account your condition, food allergies, sensitivities and consult your GP if necessary.
