Relationships that can make you sick and the alternative meaning of the word I love you

I think it's very important to say that, despite the psychologising b@llshits circulating on the internet, it's not at all certain that someone with endometriosis has a bad relationship (or a bad relationship with their mother or father). In fact, in my practice, I find that fortunately many people are in a balanced, supportive relationship.

This series of articles is designed to help those who are in an emotionally abusive relationship to recognise that something is wrong, to reflect and possibly to get motivated to seek help.

So once again: there is NO abusive relationship behind most endometriosis stories. But if you are in the very small percentage who are emotionally abused in your relationship, you need to know about them, which is why I'm covering the topic for a few weeks on the blog.

What exactly does it mean when the narcissist says "I love you" to his partner? Is the narcissist capable of real love? In a narcissistic relationship, this word can be said, surprising as it may seem, and in fact it is often said.

Unfortunately, the meaning of the word changes in this context. From the mouth of a narcissist, the word I love you is more likely to mean:

  • I love the way you're doing everything you can to make me happy.
  • I love the feeling it gives me when I see you weak and vulnerable
  • I love to keep you under control
  • I love to see you slowly driving me crazy
  • I love to see you as a child, terrified to dare to bring up topics that don't interest me
  • I love how easy it is to get you to deal with my pain, never your own
  • I love to see your efforts to prove your love
  • I love that I can easily get you out of your tangle
  • I love my power over you
  • I love that I can make you question yourself in moments
  • I love to see myself in the mirror of your admiring eyes
  • I like how I can influence other people's opinions of you
  • I like that my "appreciation" is a kind of drug for you, and you'll do anything for it
  • I like to isolate you from others
  • I love that I can control your thoughts and ambitions
  • I love the feeling of being with you, you make me feel strong and important

That's all the word I love you can mean coming from the mouth of a narcissist.
