As has been mentioned many times, it is very difficult to differentially diagnose endometriosis. Regular recurrences of bloating symptoms that are stubbornly resistant to treatment, frequent urination, abdominal pain, burning and stinging sensation when urinating...
At first you probably think of a simple bladder infection, since, especially in summer, it is not difficult to get it on the beach, in wet swimsuits. But if the symptoms recur too often, perhaps even completely resistant to antibiotic treatment, you'll surely think that you might have bladder-affected endometriosis.
But this is not necessarily the case. There is a condition called Painful Bladder Syndrome, which has symptoms deceptively similar to endometriosis, but while the symptoms of bloating are temporary, in the latter condition the symptoms can last for months or years, making everyday life and relationships and sex life miserable.
Why and how this condition develops is not yet known. It can be triggered by chronic inflammation, mistreated cystitis, certain metabolic disorders, or trauma or blows to a stronger bladder. When the inner layer of the bladder is damaged, urine is free to reach and irritate the mucous membrane, creating a form of hypersensitivity.
If you think you might be affected, there are several things you can do - after you and your doctor have ruled out all other possible causes. There are specific medications that try to restore the inner film of the bladder, anti-inflammatories, anti-allergic drugs, which can help you to be symptom-free for a while, but a long-term solution can only be achieved through lifestyle changes.
- Drink plenty of fluids, clean water!
- Avoid foods and drinks that irritate the bladder! These include coffee, alcohol, strong spices and foods high in potassium, such as bananas.
- Don't be afraid to change your lifestyle, you can do a lot to improve! Learn how to relax, learn stress management techniques, and if necessary, turn to to a mental health professional!
- Exercise regularly and get enough sleep!
- What to drink: nettle tea, cranberry and cranberry juice, chamomile, chutney, pure water.
- What you bathe in: a pleasantly warm bathwater with a good quality combination of tea tree lavender and palm rose essential oils.
