Many of you have asked about one of my favourite hobbies, homemade soap making.
You can buy natural organic cosmetics in shops for a pretty penny, but making them at home is almost a dime a dozen. It's a bit of a hassle, but it's nice to be able to bathe my little boy with homemade soap, for example, knowing for sure what substances are in contact with his skin. I'm sure you're aware that countless theories have been put forward to explain the development of endometriosis, including one that blames it on adverse environmental influences. Toxins absorbed through your skin from various beauty products and cosmetics take just 26 seconds to enter your bloodstream.
I'm going to share a basic recipe I learned last summer in the yard of a small organic shop in Agard.
Ingredients:
- 300 g olive oil,
- 150g coconut oil,
- 50g sheavaj,
- 190 g water,
- 65g sodium hydroxide granules
Handle sodium hydroxide with care, wear protective gloves. Add the lye to the water, heat will be generated when the two substances are mixed. measure out the oils and the shea butter, mix them, heat to 40-50 degrees C. Pour the lye-water mixture into the fat and mix very thoroughly, you can even use a stick blender. You can scent the mixture with essential oils to your liking, feel free to experiment, but make sure you only use something you have tested on the inside of your wrist beforehand. Just because a substance is natural doesn't mean it won't trigger an allergic or sensitivity reaction in your body.
Then pour into moulds and leave at room temperature for a few days. After you take the soap out of the moulds, you should leave it to rest for another 5-6 weeks in a well-ventilated place before using it.
If you wrap it up nicely, a homemade, indulgent soap pack is also an ideal gift!
I wish you a good brewing!
