Healthy diet and exercise - half health! This is also true for women with chronic diseases. Yet I hear countless times that this is why I can't do it, that's why I can't do it...
I've collected the most common excuses for not exercising, and in a few sentences, I've ruthlessly taken them down. 🙂
Who cares if you no longer love, nurture and look after it? Remember, your body works for you every day. It deserves to have you working for it every now and then!
Excuse 1: I don't have time to move!
Do you really not have twenty minutes a day to yourself?
Keep a diary of all your activities for a week, so you can easily see what time-consuming activities have been holding you back. Replace any of them with 20 minutes of intense exercise.
You can jog while walking the dog, do sit-ups while watching a TV series, ride the indoor bike while reading, cycle to work or shopping, do calf exercises while brushing your teeth... Nothing is impossible. Think about why everything and everyone is more important than yourself and your health...and don't be afraid to make a change! That's all the busiest women can fit in.
Excuse 2: I can't do it alone!
But you can, you just don't want it badly enough.
If you prefer to exercise socially, organise a running club in your neighbourhood, get your girlfriend or boyfriend to go swimming with you, arrange a date at the gym. The possibilities are endless. If you're up for it and go out on your own, you're sure to make some good friends while you're doing it.
Excuse 3: But I travel so much...
Then you have the easiest job. Almost all hotels have swimming pools and fitness rooms. There's no better way to end a busy day of running around, business dinners and seemingly impenetrable endless hours than to swim a few lengths in the pool, do a little pedal on the in-room bike and then spend ten pleasant minutes in the infrared sauna.
Excuse 4:It's impossible with a small child...
Unfortunately, that didn't work either :-P. You can start baby yoga as early as 6 weeks after giving birth, but you can also do baby belly dancing, baby mama classes. If you don't have one near you, order a baby-mama gymnastics dvd, take your baby and do the exercises together at home. As your baby grows up, you can move out on your own to a nearby gym, while grandma or a neighbour friend watches him for an hour.
You can also team up with other mums in the area, taking turns to look after each other's babies while the other relaxes.
Many gyms also have a child-locker, so if you like the lady in charge and it's not too noisy, you can use this too, so you can check on your little one during the workout. If nothing else works, you're left with jogging in a sports stroller with bursts of activity, long brisk walks around the neighbourhood, or home gym on dvd while your child sleeps.
Excuse 5: I'm too tired to do anything after work.
Then get up earlier and exercise in the morning. There's a saying that you should move when your brain doesn't even realize what you're doing...:-) If you have a long lunch break, take a workout outfit and use it to move!
And on a tired night, it's just hard to start moving. Once you've got into it, you'll soon feel the effects - you'll be more energetic, fitter, more cheerful, less exhausted.
You'll be in dire need of exercise and will miss a night out. Even if you're really tired, grab a yoga dvd and stretch your muscles, relax, it'll do you good, and you'll even get some exercise.
Go for it!
