The flu is all over the news again this year: epidemic, danger, visit bans...
The fact is that influenza is a simple illness that in a large percentage of cases goes away on its own after a week's rest, as the virus is overcome by the body. However, elderly people and those with chronic illnesses really should be careful not to catch it if they can, as they are the ones who are at increased risk of developing a complication.
Here are some tips on how to avoid colds and flu this year using natural methods. We've selected a selection of immune-boosting foods that you can eat while on an endometriosis diet. Eat as many of the following foods as possible:
Oilseeds- rich in omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin E, antioxidants. Don't overdo it as they are high in calories and fat, a small handful a day is enough!
Garlic- Its antioxidant, antibacterial and antiviral properties have long been known in folk medicine. It is best eaten raw if you can stand it, although it only loses vitamin C when cooked. It also contains vitamins A, B and E. Thanks to its complex ingredients, it has a significant immune-boosting effect.
Green tea - is a rich source of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and bioflavonoids, making it an effective supporter of the immune system.
Ginger- anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and analgesic, it can be of great importance in the prevention and treatment of winter diseases,
Grapefruit- you might think that all citrus fruits are rich in vitamin C, which is why they help during cold season. That's true, but grapefruit stands out among them. The immune-boosting properties of the oil from its seeds are recognised, and it's rightly an important part of the natural treatment of flu-like symptoms. A single serving will provide the body with its daily vitamin C requirement. The fruit is known in both white and red varieties, the latter being the result of breeding. You should also eat the membrane part of the fruit that separates the cloves, as it contains a lot of dietary fibre and flavonoids, which protect it from harmful free radicals. It's best to juice the fruit at home, rather than buying filtered grapefruit juice from the store, to make sure you get all the valuable parts.
